This cookbook is about the celebration of healthy fresh food for our students grown by Oklahoma farmers.
School child nutrition professionals are the lifeline to healthy students. The food that is served in the cafeteria can be a child’s most important meals of the day. Our farmers are vital to our community food systems and school food service is what links the farmers with the students through the Farm to School program.
The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) is pleased to partner with the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food & Forestry’s Farm to School Program, the Oklahoma Publishing Company and the Oklahoma State Department of Education along with various Oklahoma chefs, farmers, growers, and students and their families to support the Oklahoma Farm to School cookbook.
The cookbook is intended to support ideals and recipes for serving locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables in our schools. The recipes are intended to offer healthier food choices to students, while making it affordable for school food service operations to buy local, therefore supporting the agricultural communities in our state.
